We have a team of volunteers called the Community Action Group (CAG). This is a group of D/deaf people who are interested in working with the D/deaf communities. Sometimes people join because they want to get work experience and sometimes they just want to help the community they are part of.
Being part of CAG can involve:
CAG meets every 6 weeks and at these meetings they discuss what is happening – what events Deaflink have planned and what they can do to help. We discuss changes that the government or other agencies have brought in that unfairly affects members of our communities. Or we notice that people are experiencing the same sort of problems - like accessing their rights.
We use this knowledge and information to feedback to Board of trustees who, with the staff team, develop a strategy to address these problems.
