Benefits/PIP

There have been lots of changes to the Disabilities benefits.  It’s not easy for signpost with lots of benefit choicesBSL users to get information or help to fill in the forms.  We know there are problems communicating with the Benefits organisations (DWP, ATOS etc.).  We have produced information sheets that might help you get your claim sorted.

Personal Independence Payments (PIP)

Lots of people have had problems claiming PIP and the decisions are not fair or the same for everyone.  This is information about the things you have to do to claim PIP. The application process is quick so you need to act fast, do not delay or wait.

If you have been refused PIP or received a small amount it is possible to ask for them to review their decision (Mandatory Reconsideration) and if they don’t change their minds then ask for an Appeal – this would be a tribunal, you can get help. If you are a BSL user then you should receive 8 points minimum and this will get you the lowest care award.   If you have any problems please contact Deaflink and we will try and help you find the best place for advice and support.

Diary

This is a link to a diary that will help you think about how your disability affects you. Try and do this before you apply for PIP.

More information

There are lots of places where people can get information and advice with PIP claims. However not all of them provide interpreters.
