Deaf Awareness

  • What is a cochlear implant?
  • What is BSL?
  • Do I need to book an interpreter?
  • What does acquired hearing loss mean?
  • What can I do to improve communication?
  • Can deaf people speak?

Many people do not understand hearing loss and/or deaf culture and the questions above are typical.

There are lots of little things that hearing people and services can do to make sure that they are accessible. A good starting point is getting Deaf Awareness Training – get a better understanding of what deafness is and how it impacts on a person and the society around them.  Lots of organisations provide this, including Deaflink.  Please get in touch if you want more information.
