The Freeman hospital provides the main audiology service for the following areas; Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. This is one of the many departments in the ear nose and throat (ENT) service. Initial referral to this department is through your GP
The audiology service will be able to test your hearing and where appropriate provide you with a hearing aid that matches your hearing condition. An audiogram of your hearing test will be produced which outlines the areas of your hearing that has been lost and this information will be used to programme your digital hearing aid.
Digital hearing aids also have the capacity to have more than one programme, depending on your needs and lifestyle. Ask your audiologist about the options that are available to you. Many hearing aid users find the use of the loop setting very useful especially when visiting the theatre or cinema. However, this is not added routinely therefore you will need to ask your audiologist to add this programme.
You can also obtain replacement batteries from the audiology department and visit their repair clinic if something goes wrong with your hearing aid. Please click below to be linked to audiology’s home page where you will find details of their opening hours.

Within the department there are also specialist services available to support you if required which include hearing therapy, tinnitus management, vestibular (balance) services and a referral route to specialist consultants.
Audiology staff are supportive of Deaflink’s work and regularly attend our SHHH meetings to provide details about updates to their service.
